1. TV

To attach the TiVo® box to your TV, you will need one of the following:

  • Component (best quality picture) and composite connection ports (audio);
  • Composite connection ports (audio and video); or a
  • HDMI™ port (best quality picture and audio)

Please note that the TiVo® service is not compatible with pay television services such as Foxtel, Austar, SelecTV, TransACT or neighbourhood cable.

2. Broadband connection with a home network

You need a broadband connection to use the TiVo® service because it uses the electronic program guide to record shows.

Your TiVo DVR needs to be constantly connected to broadband, to allow it to receive the most up-to-date program guide and recording information.

At the moment, the only use of broadband by your TiVo service is to get daily updates for the program guide and occasional software updates for the TiVo box, so you can typically expect your data usage to be less than 5MB per month. This excludes video downloads or other broadband usage you may choose to initiate in future.

Because there are a number of limited data usage plans with Internet Service Providers, we recommend you monitor your general usage carefully to ensure you do not exceed your monthly data limits (if you have them).

Let's say you want to record Gordon Ramsay and the network moves your show to another time. The intelligent TiVo® service knows, through the online guide, that your show has moved – so that vital episode won't be lost.

A home network allows lots of electronic devices to communicate with each other, often using an Internet connection. To create a home network you need a router (wired or wireless) which needs to be accessible near your TV.

If you are wired:
If you have a wired home network with a spare Ethernet port, you can simply plug your TiVo® service in there.

If you are wireless:
If you have a wireless home network, you can buy a TiVo® wireless adaptor and connect it to your existing home WiFi network.

3. Terrestrial TV antenna

All you need is an antenna on your roof with a connection point to the wall socket. We don't recommend indoor TV antennas for use with your TiVo® box.

Activation of the TiVo® service (available free from www.tivo.com.au/activate) is necessary and are subject to terms and conditions.
